HISTORY OF MEHSANA DISTRICT– Mehsana has established by Raja ShriMesaji Chawda 660 years ago in the year 1358.
He laid the foundation stone for this city by establishing a temple dedicated to Toran wali Mata.
Interestingly, the lamp or same inside the temple is being lit continuously for 660 years now.
The city is name Mehsana after its founder Raja Mesaji Chawda.
Mehsana existed even during the reign of the Solanki and Mughal dynasty.
Gaekwad dynasty has played a very important role in maintaining the strongholdofMehsanaoverthe region.
In the year 1766, Sardar Damajirao Gaekwad defeated Zoravar Khan of the Babi dynasty and established
the Gaekwad dynasty by uniting the regions of Visnagar, Vadnagar, Kheralu, Mehsana, Vijapur, Patan and Haarij.
The Gaekwads laid railway lines in Mehsana in the year 1887 and that is why the district serves as the center point for Ahmedabad -Delhi rail route.
The palace built by the rulers of the Gaekwad dynasty in Ramosan Tekri has a great historical significance.
